Room 9 has fun and exhibited scientific qualities of collecting data, creating a hypothesis and then further critiquing their evidence during their construction of catapults. Luckily these were only used to launch pompom around the classroom!

Members from Room 9 of the school Kapa Haka groups put on an amazing performance to celebrate the opening of Te Ara o Te Ngahere (the school's nature trail) last Tuesday. The beautiful singing and amazing haka was matched by glorious weather!

Our Pānui (Reading) programme consists of a number of different activities. Children have guided reading with the teacher, read to themselves, listen to reading, do word related activities and read to each other. One popular way that our students like to read to one another is through the use of plays:

The weather is being kind to us again so we have been doing some short physical challenges at the start of each day. Our focus for Health and Physical Education this term is small ball skills so you can see the children practising their catching skills in these photos:

Every class in the school has adopted a native tree. Room 9 planted a nikau palm near the back gate, based on the research of the class. Members of the class found out the following information:

Haven't some of these early winter days been quite mild? So Room 9 took the opportunity to play soccer golf last Friday (June 4th). Here groups of three children had to complete 18 holes where they had to kick a ball into a hulahoop in the lowest number of kicks. There were plenty of holes-in-ones!

Our class has been working very hard so sometimes the children have a chance to be creative with Lego. Here some students are making beyblades.

We explored some basic coding today as part of our exploration of sound for Pūtaiao (Science). Here our children had to come up with a code to navigate their team member through an obstacle course using body percussion instructions as the code. This was a popular activity which everyone completed using great teamwork and coding skills.

We had fun last Friday in the school hall. Children had a series of challenges where they had to guide their blindfolded friends around obstacle courses. Everyone demonstrated trust, logical thinking and patience.
