Kia ora whānau,
Every class in the school has adopted a native tree. Room 9 planted a nikau palm near the back gate, based on the research of the class. Members of the class found out the following information:
- Nikau palms prefer frost-free locations with plenty of sunlight, but not too much
- They need to be watered daily
- Nikau palms are very slow growers – they take nearly 100 years to reach full growth
- Māori used to use the inner part of nikau palms
